Container sizes and options
What sizes of storage containers do you offer?
Fort Collins Mobile Storage carries 10-foot, 20-foot, and 40-foot shipping containers for sale. We also rent containers in all three sizes, plus specialty configurations.
Here is a quick breakdown of what fits best:
- 10-foot container: Good for small job sites, one-room storage, or tight driveways. About 570 cubic feet of space inside.
- 20-foot container: The most popular size. Holds a 2- to 3-bedroom home worth of items. About 1,170 cubic feet.
- 40-foot container: Doubles the 20-foot. Best for full-house moves, large commercial stock, or warehouse overflow. About 2,390 cubic feet.
We also carry 20-foot side open containers for wide loads and 40-foot double door containers for drive-through access. For dock-height loading, we rent 48-foot and 53-foot semi trailers.
Need a mobile workspace? We rent and sell 20-foot and 40-foot mobile offices too.
What is the difference between mobile storage and a self-storage unit?
A self-storage unit is a fixed room at a facility. You drive to it, unload your truck, and drive home. You make that trip every time you need something.
Mobile storage comes to you. We drop a container at your property, job site, or business. You load when it works for you. No truck rentals, no repeated drives across town.
Other differences:
- Size range. Most self-storage units in Fort Collins top out around 10×20 feet (200 sq ft). A 40-foot shipping container gives you 320 sq ft of steel-walled space.
- Build quality. Our containers are steel shipping containers built for ocean transport. They are water-tight, wind-tight, and pest-resistant. Indoor storage units vary.
- Flexibility. You can keep a container on your property, move it to a new address, or store it at our facility. A self-storage unit stays where it is.
- Buy option. You can buy a container and own it outright. You cannot buy a self-storage unit.
